David Leech's Retirement party [View this entry]

A buffet was held at Wharf to mark David Leech's retirement from the position of Traffic Manager, attended by about 60 volunteers and staff. A member of the TRPS since the late 1950s, David worked as volunteer, predominantly on the traffic side for many years and also served on Council and the Board. He was appointed Traffic Manager in 1995 and was also responsible for the marketing of the railway. On behalf of the Talyllyn Railway Company, the chairman, Keith Theobald paid tribute to David's efforts on behalf of the railway and recalled David's unfailing good humour and wit, which had often been of great value in maintaining smooth relationships on the railway. David's response was in his usual witty style, and recalled his nearly 50 years of involvement with the railway, and how he en  More ...

Carriage 10 in the Paint Shop [View this entry]

Carriage No. 10 continues to receive attention at Pendre. The frames were drawn out and used as a flat wagon to remove a fallen tree from Wharf cutting, before being stored at Wharf on the edge for a short time. Towards the end of Spring Bank Holiday week the frames moved to Pendre, where the angle-irons that support the body were removed in the Loco shed by Mike Green (who had welded them on in the first place).

Loco 6's new safety valves [View this entry]

On Sunday afternoon (19th February), Dave Jones and Rob Frost brought Loco No. 6 "Duncan" to Wharf for coal and then parked it on the loop opposite the Control Office, with the comment that they were going to blow it up.

Those present can confirm that the new safety valves opened very effectively and with a good deal of noise. When the injector was used they also shut successfully. We were told that currently the valves are in basic form, without the planned "semi-pop" feature.

Thanks are due to Phil Wheeler who has constructed the valves as a homework project - more information is available on Phil's web site.
